Youth Education Coordinator and English Teacher
POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Youth Education Coordinator and English Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing activities for our after school program in Playa Potrero, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. The main responsibility of this position is planning and teaching daily Pre-K through 6th grade English classes. The Youth Education Coordinator and English Teacher will work closely with the Site Director to design and implement other youth education activities. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who has a love for working with children, is positive and upbeat and has classroom experience.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage, plan and implement all activities for Abriendo Mentes’ after school program
  • Plan and implement all daily PreK-6 English classes/activities
  • Work with the Site Director to create and implement other youth education related activities, including sports, arts and crafts, field trips, environmental projects, health projects, and more
  • Schedule all youth classes and activities and notify students and parents of any schedule changes
  • Supervise, incorporate and assist Classroom Aides and facilitate their classroom orientation
  • Coordinate and execute all Fun Friday activities with the help of Classroom Aides and other volunteers
  • Track attendance and related incentive programs
  • Coordinate and execute English evaluations with assistance from volunteers
  • Maintain clean and well-organized classroom and Youth English office space
  • Maintain strong communication with supervisors, volunteers, parents, and partner schools
REQUIREMENTS
  • Native or advanced English speaker and advanced Spanish skills required
  • Youth teaching experience (6 months +); ESL teaching experience and certified a plus
  • Strong classroom management experience
  • Experience working and/or teaching in a diverse classroom environment with mixed ages
  • Ability to create relevant English lessons for mixed abilities
  • Experience living or working abroad, preferably in Latin America
  • Commitment of at least 6 months

SALARY DETAILS

$500/month living stipend

February 5, 2018. Candidates must be able to commit to at least 6 months. Preference will be given to those who can commit to longer.
